Art Therapy Credentialed Supervisor (ATCS)
The Art Therapy Certified Supervisor (ATCS) is a credential offered to Board Certified Art Therapists (ATR-BCs) who have substantial supervision qualifications.
The ATCS credential informs employers, prospective employers, supervises, and prospective supervisees that you have met specific criteria for competency in the theories and practices of art therapy supervision.
The Supervisory Standards Committee reviewed and updated the ATCS credential standards. These standards were implemented in 2021, there is a one-year grandfathering period should an applicant choose to follow the previous standards.
Applicants opting to be grandfathered must have their applications submitted by December 31, 2021 and should contact the National Office at email@example.com before completing the ATCS application. See the ATCS Application Handbook for ATCS standards-specific requirements.

If you are applying using the grandfather option for experience-based please indicate that you will be submitting a transcript for the education step of the application.
The application fee for The Art Therapy Certified Supervisor (ATCS) is non-refundable and non-transferable. This fee covers the administrative costs of application review. Do not use application handbooks from previous years, all applicants must submit applications according to the standards and procedures outlined in the handbook for the year that the application is submitted. Applicants opting to be grandfathered must have their applications submitted by December 31, 2021, and should contact the National Office at firstname.lastname@example.org before completing the ATCS application.
For applicants applying using the new standards please note that the verification of supervision form is no longer required to be completed by someone either than the applicant. Applicants can outline the supervision hours provided and attest that the hours outlined are as stated. The ATCB will email you the supervision form, once completed this form can be uploaded directly through your MYATCB portal.
Candidates must respond truthfully to all questions in the Disciplinary and Litigation history section of the ATR application. If you have current or past disciplinary or legal events that require you to respond “yes” to any of the questions, copies of the charge documents and follow-up documents must be included, along with your written account of the event(s). This information should be uploaded with your application on MyATCB. All ATCB applicants and credential holders agree to abide by the ATCB Code of Ethics, Conduct, and Disciplinary Procedures and report any issues to ATCB in writing.
Once all supporting application documents are received, the application will move to an “In Review”, review times can take eight to twelve weeks. If approved you will be notified if your ATCS application has been approved. Once approved, you may then use the ATCS professional designation for the remainder of the credential year of which you are approved. The credential year of the ATCB runs July 1 through June 30.
To maintain the ATCS credential annual renewals are required, in which credential holders complete a formal attestation that they are in compliance with the ATCB Code of Ethics, Conduct, and Disciplinary Procedures. Additionally, your designation as a board-certified art therapist (ATR-BC) must be in good standing. Your annual renewal notice will be sent to you every spring and is due by June 30. the annual renewal fee is $25. A late fee of $30 is assessed if renewals are not is not completed by June 30.
Any credential that is not renewed will become inactive
