Board Certification Options
The voluntary ATCB Certification examination is available to all art therapists who hold the ATR credential and are in good standing with the ATCB. The examination is offered once a year during the annual conference, both in the host city and simultaneously in four other U.S. cities. See "Examination" for upcoming exam dates and locations. To download an exam application see "Applications".
The ATCB offers special testing arrangements for candidates with professionally designated "disabilities" as defined by the Americans with Disabilities Act. Requests for special accommodation must be made in writing at least sixty (60) days prior to the original examination date and must be accompanied by a letter from a licensed health care professional who has current knowledge of the candidate’s disability and its impact on major life activities. The professional must have diagnosed the disability or consulted with the candidate within the past three years. Please read the full policy and procedure at "ATCB Special Accommodation" prior to requesting an accommodation.
Candidates may also request an accommodation for religious reasons in order to have the examination administered outside the regularly scheduled timeframe. Candidates wishing accommodation for religious reasons need to apply in writing at least sixty (60) days prior to the original examination date. The request must be accompanied by documentation from clergy confirming the religious necessity for an accommodation.
Test-on-Demand is available for candidates wishing to have the examination administered outside the regularly scheduled time frame. The administration fee for Test-on-Demand is $300.00 in addition to the regular examination fee. The candidate must submit the request in writing with three (3) dates that they are available to sit for the examination that are at least sixty (60) later than the date of the request. The ATCB Board Liaison to the Certification Committee will evaluate the request for accommodation and render a decision within thirty (30) days of its receipt.
