Examination
The 2012 administration of the Art Therapy Credentials Board Examination (ATCBE) is scheduled for July 14, 2012 in the following locations:

Savannah, Georgia (AATA Conference)
Minneapolis, Minnesota
Nashville, Tennessee
Las Vegas, Nevada
Manchester, New Hampshire
New York City, New York
Rochester, New York
To take the examination, you must:
- be a current ATR
- complete the Board Certification Application, attach payment, and mail it in by the postmark deadline
ATCB Special Examination Accommodations Policy
If you are an ATR and you are planning to take the ATCBE for the purpose of Board Certification (ATR-BC) and you will need special testing accommodations, please refer to the Special Exam Accommodations Request Form on page 4 of the Board Certification Application. If you are testing for state licensure, you will need to contact your state credentialing board for information regarding testing accommodations.
If you are a current ATR and have passed the Art Therapy Credentials Board Examination (ATCBE) for state licensure purposes within three years or 36 months, you may be eligible to complete the ATR-BC Application for ATRs Who Have Passed the ATCBE for State Licensure.
Preparing for the ATCBE
This preparation guide was developed by the Art Therapy Credentials Board, Inc. (ATCB) to provide information to art therapists who plan to take the ATCBE. Its purpose is to assist art therapists develop their respective individual approaches in preparation for taking the ATCBE; however, enhanced performance on the examination is neither expressed nor implied. The ATCB does not endorse, nor recommend any study guide published by any other group or individual not directly related to the ATCB.
About the ATCB Job Analysis
In 2008, the ATCB completed a national job analysis to provide a basis for the continuing development of the ATCBE, ensuring that the content of the examination is job related. The primary goal of this study, to develop a base of art therapy job activities for the continuing development of a criterion-referenced examination was accomplished. Each form of the examination follows specific test specifications, thus providing evidence to support decisions regarding candidates’ ability to perform the art therapists’ job. ATCBE Examination Statistics
The July 2011 ATCBE was administered to one hundred thirty two (132) examinees, including seventy-six (76) candidates for Board Certification (ATR-BC). The examination matched the test specifications, thereby providing substantial evidence in support of content validity. Upon administration, the psychometric characteristics of the examination were appropriate.
