The Provisional Registered Art Therapist (ATR-Provisional) is the credential that ensures an art therapist meets established educational standards, with successful completion of advanced specific graduate-level education in art therapy, and is practicing art therapy under an approved supervisor(s). Individuals are eligible to apply for this credential once they have completed their degree (or education requirements for the ATR-Provisional) and are engaged in a supervisory relationship with a qualified supervisor(s). The ATR-Provisional is not a required credential to apply for the ATR.
Candidates shall submit their application to the ATCB using the MyATCB portal and, if approved, are notified accordingly. They may then use the ATR-Provisional credential designation.
Candidates must respond truthfully to all questions in the Disciplinary and Litigation history section of the ATR-Provisional application. If candidates have current or past disciplinary or legal events that require them to respond "yes" to any of the questions, copies of the charge documents and follow-up documents must be included, along with a written account of the event(s). This information must be submitted to the ATCB. All ATCB applicants and credential holders agree to abide by the ATCB Code of Ethics, Conduct, and Disciplinary Procedures and report any issues to the ATCB in writing.

Review the ATR-Provisional Application Handbook in its entirety prior to beginning the application process. You must apply for the ATR-Provisional online and then submit your official documentation via postal mail in one packet.
